Cal-SARA Applauds Recent Insurance Fraud Conviction

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA – September 29, 2021

On July 15, 2021, Rebecca Gaspar, the owner of the now defunct professional employer organization Prime Staff, was found guilty of illegal insurance activity in Los Angeles Superior Court.

Specifically, Gaspar was found guilty of self-adjusting her own workers’ compensation insurance claims.

On October 22, 2021, Gaspar was sentenced to one year in prison and ordered to pay $2,800,000 in restitution to her victims.

The investigation was conducted by the California Department of Insurance.

The self-adjustment of claims is a strategy often used to commit workers’ compensation insurance fraud.

“Cal-SARA applauds the Department of Insurance and the court for bringing this unscrupulous predator to justice”, stated Cal-SARA Executive Director Mark Bertler.

“Cal-SARA is committed to working with state agencies, the courts and whistleblowers to identify and bring individuals and businesses who commit workers compensation fraud to justice”, he continued. “Cal-SARA encourages people to report suspected workers compensation fraud using the Cal-SARA website at www.cal-sara.org.”
